Made for little discoveries

Ages 4–5: read, build, write & create

Read short stories using known sounds, explore number bonds, practise handwriting and make something with your own hands. Choose a comfortable challenge and follow school guidance on phonics and letter formation.

Start with a few minutes and a few items. These are flexible browsing suggestions, not a checklist of what a child must be able to do.

A story they can begin to read

Choose by the sounds already learned, then read and talk together.

Make numbers make sense

Combine groups, explore number bonds and move printable counting pieces.

Write, make & try

Practise a movement, form a letter, then make something of their own.

Explore everything for this age

Make it work for your child

Try pointing or talking before using a pencil. Offer a smaller set, show an example, or use a familiar toy alongside the picture. You can stop halfway through and come back another day.

What if another age group looks more suitable?

Use it. Interests, experience and comfort vary. Choose by the activity and your child’s response, and ask their school or early-years setting if you need individual guidance.
